The Flossophy Behind Flossophy Dental
At Flossophy Dental, we believe dentistry should begin with one simple question: What is best for the patient?
That question is at the center of everything we do.
Flossophy Dental was founded by a husband-and-wife team with backgrounds deeply rooted in education and academic dentistry. Over the years, we have become accustomed to approaching dentistry through the lens of evidence: asking questions, examining the current research, considering the available treatment options, and understanding both the benefits and limitations of what we recommend.
When we decided to open our own practice, we wanted to create a dental office where that philosophy could guide every aspect of patient care.
Your Teeth Are Worth Protecting
We believe that, whenever possible, nothing is healthier, stronger, or more naturally suited to your mouth than your own teeth.
That is why prevention is such an important part of our philosophy.
Dentistry is often thought of as what happens after something goes wrong—a filling after a cavity, a crown after a tooth has been damaged, or a replacement tooth after one has been lost. But we believe some of the most important dentistry happens before treatment is necessary.
Our goal is to help patients understand their oral health, identify potential problems early, and make informed decisions that can help preserve their natural teeth for as long as possible.
Treatment is not always the answer simply because treatment is available.
Sometimes the best decision is to monitor a condition. Sometimes it is to change a habit or improve preventive care. Sometimes a minimally invasive treatment is appropriate. And sometimes more extensive treatment is necessary.
Our responsibility is to help you understand those choices.
Evidence-Based Dentistry
Dentistry continues to evolve. New materials, technologies, procedures, and treatment philosophies are constantly being introduced.
Our academic backgrounds have taught us to ask an important question before incorporating something into patient care:
What does the evidence tell us?
Evidence-based dentistry does not mean that there is always one perfect treatment for every patient. In fact, the opposite is often true.
Good treatment planning requires combining the available scientific evidence with the individual patient's circumstances, needs, expectations, risks, and goals.
Two patients with what appears to be the same dental problem may reasonably choose very different treatments.
That is why we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to dentistry.
When Teeth Can No Longer Be Saved
Our philosophy begins with preserving natural teeth—but we also recognize that teeth sometimes cannot be saved.
When a tooth is lost, our goal changes from preservation to thoughtful replacement.
As prosthodontic and operative dentists, we have a particular interest in restoring damaged or missing teeth in a way that considers not only appearance, but also function, comfort, biology, longevity, and the health of the surrounding teeth and tissues.
When replacement is necessary, we strive to create restorations that look and function as naturally as possible.
Whether treatment involves a filling, crown, bridge, denture, implant restoration, or more complex rehabilitation, we believe the restoration should become part of the patient's mouth—not simply something that looks like a dental replacement.
We Believe Patients Should Be Part of the Decision
One of our most important responsibilities as dentists is not simply to tell patients what treatment they need.
It is to educate them about their options.
Every treatment has potential benefits, limitations, risks, costs, and uncertainties. Our responsibility is to explain those factors as clearly as possible so that patients can make decisions based on an understanding of what is involved.
We will recommend what we believe is appropriate based on the available evidence and our clinical judgment, but we also believe that the final decision belongs to the patient.
Our role is to provide the knowledge and guidance necessary for you to make that decision confidently.
The People Behind the Flossophy
This philosophy extends beyond the dentists.
We carefully choose the people who become part of our team because technical ability is only one part of providing excellent dental care.
We want our patients to feel that they are being cared for by people who genuinely value them.
Compassion, patience, respect, communication, and attention to the individual are qualities that matter to us. We want the experience of coming to Flossophy Dental to reflect the same patient-centered philosophy that guides our clinical decisions.
